One person is dead, and another is in the hospital following a traffic collision in Oroville, Butte County, on Saturday evening, October 12, 2024.
According to the Oroville police, the crash occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. in the area of Montgomery St. and 5th Ave.
Police reported that one driver failed to stop at the posted stop sign on 5th Ave. and was traveling at a high rate of speed in a Chevrolet pickup truck.
Another Ford pickup truck was traveling east on Montgomery St., and the driver was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. Both pickup trucks collided in the intersection.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found the driver of the Chevrolet pickup unconscious inside the vehicle. Despite life-saving measures, the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The identities of both pickup truck drivers have not been released. The driver of the Ford pickup and a passenger were taken to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
The area was closed for nearly 3 ½ hours on Saturday night due to the investigation. Police are still looking into whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal collision.
