An unborn child was killed, and a pregnant woman sustained injuries after a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Coalinga on Friday morning, October 11, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported around 10:00 a.m. when a 2023 Hyundai Elantra collided with a 2022 Subaru Forester that had slowed down due to another unrelated traffic accident. The impact caused the Subaru to crash into a 2017 GMC Yukon in front of it.
The pregnant woman, who was driving the Subaru, sustained facial injuries and a possible concussion. She was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, where it was confirmed that her unborn child had died due to the injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators indicated that, at this time, it does not appear that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
