Two juveniles were hospitalized with major injuries after being struck by a vehicle while riding their bikes across Highway 111 near Adams Street in La Quinta on Friday evening, October 10, 2025.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded around 9:05 p.m.The suspect vehicle fled the scene but was later located and detained.
The driver, identified as 47-year-old Jose O. of Palm Springs, was arrested. Investigators believe Orbe was intoxicated at the time and was allegedly involved in a prior hit-and-run in Indian Wells.
Jose, who had previously been placed on probation for DUI, was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center with $7,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
