A 23-year-old woman was fatally injured in a hit-and-run collision in Santa Barbara late Friday, October 9, 2026.
Emergency crews responded at about 10:10 p.m. near the northbound Highway 101 on-ramp at Mission Street.
The woman was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with critical injuries and later died. Her name was not released pending notification of relatives.
Santa Barbara police said an officer had attempted to stop a vehicle on West Carrillo Street shortly before the collision. The driver fled onto Highway 101, and the officer discontinued the stop. Police later determined that the vehicle involved in the pedestrian incident was the same vehicle.
The vehicle was reportedly a white Mercedes, but that description had not been confirmed. The California Highway Patrol took over the investigation.
What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
