A major portion of southbound Highway 99 in Fresno was closed following a large oil spill between Olive Avenue and Jensen Avenue on Thursday night, October 9, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, multiple vehicles spun out on the slick roadway and crashed, though it is unknown if anyone was injured. Traffic was diverted off the highway at Olive Avenue, and drivers were advised to expect significant delays.
Fresno Fire Department hazmat crews identified the substance as non-flammable, non-combustible, non-oxidizing, and organic in nature. Caltrans crews applied absorbent materials and sand to clean the roadway.
CHP officials estimated the cleanup and vehicle removal would take three to four hours, with the highway expected to remain closed until at least 3:00 a.m.
Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes until the cleanup is complete.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
