According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 12:08 a.m. A witness told CHP that the motorcycle was run off the road, but no description of the vehicle believed responsible was noted.

Caltrans set up a hard closure, shutting down the transition road while authorities investigated the incident.
