A cyclist was struck by a vehicle on Shattuck Avenue at Channing Way in Berkeley on Monday evening, October 6, 2025. The driver later was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
According to Berkeley Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. The driver, 48-year-old Launette S., was heading south on Shattuck Avenue when she hit the cyclist, shattering the windshield of her vehicle. The cyclist declined hospital transport and spoke with police at the scene.
Witnesses provided a photograph of the 2016 red Mustang involved, which allowed officers to track the vehicle using the Flock automated license plate reader system. Launette was located at a home in the Oakland Hills, approximately six miles from the crash site, and arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and hit-and-run resulting in injury, along with two misdemeanors.
Launette has an open misdemeanor DUI case from 2024 and is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on October 21. Charges in the new case have not yet been filed.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
