[10-04-2026] Stanislaus County, CA – One Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Modesto.webpA driver was killed in a suspected DUI collision involving two pickup trucks on Highway 99 in Modesto on Sunday evening, October 4, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, north of Carpenter Road.

CHP said a preliminary investigation determined that the driver of a Chevrolet pickup made an unsafe lane change and collided with a GMC pickup. The GMC was overturned following the collision.

The GMC driver, who authorities said was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were not injured.

CHP identified the Chevrolet driver as John R. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Authorities continue to investigate the fatal collision.
