[10-03-2024] Elderly Woman Killed After Hit-And-Run Crash on I-5 in CottonwoodAn elderly woman sustained fatal injuries following a hit-and-run incident in Cottonwood, Shasta County, on early Thursday morning, October 3, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Redding Area units responded to a report of a pedestrian down on southbound Interstate 5, north of Gas Point Road. 

Upon arrival, officers found a 66-year-old woman lying along the shoulder of the interstate. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators collected evidence indicating the woman had been struck by a vehicle; however, no vehicles were found in the vicinity, leading authorities to classify the incident as a fatal hit-and-run crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
