At least one person was killed in one of two separate crashes on the westbound Interstate 80 in Berkeley on Friday afternoon, October 2, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded at around 3:26 p.m. to crashes in the area of University Avenue and Ashby Avenue.
CHP initially reported a collision involving at least five vehicles, including a semi-truck, but later clarified that two separate crashes occurred at approximately the same time.
Authorities said the fatal collision involved two cars on the westbound I-80 east of Ashby Avenue. The second crash occurred on the westbound I-80 just west of University Avenue.
At least one person died. Authorities did not immediately release information about the victim or whether anyone else was injured.
CHP continues to investigate the causes of both collisions.
