[09-23-2024] 56-Year-Old Rider Killed After Motorcycle Vs. Vehicle Crash on Highway 101A 56-year-old rider was killed after a motorcycle vs. vehicle collision on Highway 101 in Del Norte County on Monday evening, September 23, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, around 6:30 p.m., Shakiyla B., 52, of Smith River, was driving her 2018 Jeep Wrangler when she turned from the Mouth of Smith River Road onto Highway 101, directly into the path of a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle. 

The 56-year-old motorcyclist from Crescent City attempted to brake but could not avoid crashing into the Jeep. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP reports that alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving under the influence, causing gross bodily injury.

The crash remains under investigation.
