According to Officer Thomas Olsen of the California Highway Patrol, a five-vehicle collision was reported around 1:00 p.m. near Vernalis.

Initial investigations revealed that Renteria C. made a left turn and partially crossed the double yellow lines, sideswiping a 2012 Honda SUV before colliding head-on with a 2021 Toyota sedan in which the baby was riding.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the baby, a girl from Ceres, was in a forward-facing car seat. The child was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries sustained in the collision but died the day after the incident.

The crash also resulted in the death of 26-year-old Jairo C. of Ceres, who died at the scene. Three additional individuals were injured in the accident.

As of now, it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. All individuals involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The investigation is ongoing.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You

Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
