[09-20-2024] Three People Hospitalized After Series of Crashes on Highway 1A series of crashes sent three people to the hospital and closed Highway 1 in Monterey County on early Friday morning, September 20, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Jimmy C., 24, of Salinas, was driving southbound on the highway north of Moss Landing when he crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a black Honda driven by Janeth B., 44, of Marina. 

The first crash was reported around 4:20 a.m. After the initial collision, Jimmy C. exited his vehicle and began walking in the northbound lane when he was struck by a white Acura, suffering major injuries.

Jimmy C., Janeth B., and the Acura driver were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Investigators arrested Jimmy C. for DUI before releasing him to the hospital for care.

The investigation is ongoing.
