[09-19-2026] Shasta County, CA – Five Killed, One Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash in Redding

Five people were killed, and another suffered major injuries in a head-on collision in the area of Whiskeytown Lake west of Redding on Saturday night, September 19, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 9:15 p.m. on Highway 299, east of Whiskey Creek Road.

CHP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a Honda Civic carrying three people was traveling westbound on Highway 299 when it crossed the double-yellow line and collided head-on with a Toyota Prius carrying three people.

All three occupants of the Honda were killed. The driver of the Toyota was also pronounced dead at the scene. Two Toyota passengers were transported to a hospital, where one later died, and the other was treated for major injuries.

CHP said all three occupants of the Toyota were wearing seatbelts. Authorities did not indicate whether the Honda occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The victims’ identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash and is asking anyone with information to contact its Redding office.
