[09-17-2026] San Diego County, CA – 61-Year-Old Woman Seriously Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Clairemont

A 61-year-old woman suffered significant internal injuries in a two-vehicle crash in the Clairemont area of San Diego on Thursday night, September 17, 2026.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the collision occurred at around 9:20 p.m. at Clairemont Mesa Boulevard and Pocahontas Avenue in the Bay Ho neighborhood.

Police said a 22-year-old man driving a white 2019 Toyota Corolla southbound on Pocahontas Avenue failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the path of a westbound gray 2016 Honda Civic. The vehicles then collided in a broadside crash.

The 54-year-old Honda driver suffered abrasions, while his 61-year-old female passenger sustained significant internal injuries. The Toyota driver and his 18-year-old passenger were not injured.

Police said the Toyota driver and passenger fled on foot after the collision. Witnesses detained them until authorities arrived.

The 22-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and DUI. His identity was not immediately released.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
