[09-17-2023] Driver Killed, Another Injured After Hit-and-Run Collision Along Highway 101A driver was killed, and another was injured after a hit-and-run collision along Highway 101, Santa Clara County, early Sunday morning, September 17, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred around 1:22 a.m. along the northbound lane of U.S. 101, south of San Antonio Road.

A 24-year-old Redwood City resident was heading north on a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro when another driver on a Mazda CX-5 struck him from behind and disabled his vehicle.

Subsequently, an 18-year-old driver from Elk Grove on a 2019 Honda Accord sedan and a 27-year-old driver from Mountain View on a 2019 Nissan Altima sedan struck the Chevrolet driver.

Three vehicles were disabled and remained on the scene while the Mazda driver fled before the authorities arrived.

The 24-year-old victim was declared dead at the scene, while the Honda driver sustained injuries and was taken to Stanford Hospital. A Nissan passenger complained of pain but was not transported to a hospital.

The authorities have yet to release the identity of the Redwood City resident while investigations into the fatal collision and the suspect’s whereabouts are underway.
