[09-13-2023] Driver Critically Injured After Colliding With Truck in Vasco Road A van driver was critically injured following a collision with a truck along Vasco Road in Contra Costa County on a Wednesday morning, September 13, 2023.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and a rescue helicopter responded to the accident around 11:00 a.m. The collision occurred along the Vasco Road lanes past Camino Diablo, approximately 3 miles north of the county line.

Upon the firefighters’ arrival, the delivery van driver was found trapped in the vehicle and required extrication.

Initial investigation revealed that the agricultural truck lost clutch control and began coasting backward. By then, the van driver noticed it too late and struck the truck’s rear.

The driver was extricated shortly after and was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek to be treated for major injuries.

Drivers are advised to avoid Vasco Road until the scene has been cleared and further investigations have been concluded.
