Two women and a man were killed, and another woman suffered major injuries after a Tesla crashed into a tree and caught fire in El Dorado Hills, El Dorado County, on Saturday night, September 12, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol and El Dorado Hills Fire Department, emergency crews responded at around 10:30 p.m. to the westbound Serrano Parkway, west of Terracina Drive.
CHP officials said the Tesla appeared to drift off the roadway before its right side struck a tree, where the vehicle came to rest. The crash damaged the vehicle’s lithium-ion battery, causing the Tesla to catch fire.
Two women, identified as the driver and a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released. Another passenger, identified as 30-year-old Sacramento resident Charles C., was ejected from the vehicle and also died at the scene.
A 28-year-old Grass Valley woman escaped the vehicle with assistance from bystanders. The CHP said she was transported to an area hospital with major injuries.
Authorities said the cause of the crash remains unknown. The CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs were factors.
The CHP continues to investigate the crash.
