[09-12-2023] 2 People Injured Following Four-Vehicle Collision Near LewistonTwo people were injured after a four-vehicle collision near Lewiston, Trinity County, on Tuesday afternoon, September 12, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on State Route 299 west of Fawn Lodge Road just before 1:00 p.m.

CHP officers were dispatched to reports of a traffic collision, and there they found 41-year-old Weaverville resident Joshua S. in his 2003 Ford F-350, Cottonwood resident Nancy R. in her 2011 Mitsubishi, Lewiston resident Nicole R. in her 2021 Chevrolet, and Rebecca H., who was also from Weaverville, in her 2007 Jeep.

It was determined that the Jeep, Mitsubishi, and Chevrolet were stopped in a construction zone, with the Jeep at the back of the pack. The Ford was traveling west on the highway when he noticed the vehicles ahead, and although he applied the brakes, he was unable to stop in time and crashed into the back of the jeep.

This caused a chain reaction, pushing the Jeep forward and hitting the Mitsubishi, which was then pushed into the Chevrolet. The Jeep ended up in an embankment while the Mitsubishi crashed southwest into several trees.

Nancy R. and Rebecca H. both sustained minor and moderate injuries. Both were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for treatment. Joshua S. and Nicole R. were uninjured in the collision.

Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the accident. An investigation is underway to determine what caused the crash.
