A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Salinas on Wednesday night, September 11, 2024.
According to the Salinas Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:32 p.m. at the intersection of E. Alisal Street and Eucalyptus Street, in front of Food Co.
The vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene but was followed by a witness onto Eucalyptus Street. Although the witness lost sight of the vehicle, they provided the license plate information to the authorities.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim unresponsive. Medical personnel arrived but were unable to save the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect’s vehicle was later located on North Sanborn Road near Elkington Street. Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Jorge S.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter, unlicensed driving, and hit-and-run causing death or injury.
