[09-10-2026] Merced County, CA – Three Killed After SUV Crashes Into Canal Near Los Banos

Three people were killed after an SUV crashed into a canal near Los Banos in Merced County on Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. at Overland Avenue and H Street.

CHP said the SUV was traveling westbound on Overland Avenue when the driver missed a curve near H Street, lost control of the vehicle, and entered the canal.

Bystanders were able to extricate all three occupants from the SUV. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third died while being transported to a hospital. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the three people who died.

The CHP continues to investigate the fatal crash.
