Six people were killed, and a brush fire was triggered following a three-vehicle crash in Riverside County on Monday afternoon, September 9, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 2:22 p.m. at Gilman Springs Road and Bridge Street, near the unincorporated Lakeview community and Mystic Lake.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported that when crews arrived, all vehicles were on fire, and the blaze had spread into nearby vegetation.
Initially, it was reported that four people died at the scene, and four others were injured. Later updates confirmed that all six fatalities occurred at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victims’ identities pending the notification of the next of kin.
Gilman Springs Road was closed between state Route 79 and Allesandro Boulevard, and the fire was contained to 3.74 acres. Firefighters remained on site to check for hotspots.
