One person was killed, and two others were rushed to a hospital following a wrong-way DUI crash on Highway 101 near Los Alamos, Santa Barbara County, on Sunday morning, September 8, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 5:13 a.m. when a driver of a 2020 Mazda CX-9, identified as 34-year-old Kendra C., was spotted heading northbound in the southbound lanes. Shortly after, the Mazda collided head-on with a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado near Santa Maria Way.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 53-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 63-year-old man in the truck was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
The Mazda driver also sustained major injuries and was taken to the hospital, where she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
