[09-08-2023] Man Lying on Road Fatally Struck By Pickup Truck in East OaklandA man lying on the road was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Oakland on Friday morning, September 8, 2023.

Officers from the Oakland Police Department were dispatched to the scene around 10:30 a.m. at the 9100 block of International Boulevard.

Upon the arrival of emergency teams, the man was pronounced dead on the scene. Initial investigation revealed that the victim was lying in the roadway when he was run over.

The driver responsible remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Officials said It is currently unknown whether drugs and alcohol were factors in the incident.

No further details were released, and authorities are still trying to identify the victim while figuring out why he was lying on the road.

According to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, turning crashes are more likely to occur in larger vehicles; pedestrians who are struck by large vehicles suffer more severe injuries.
