According to the San Jose Police Department, the fatal crash occured around 3:22 a.m. in the Castlemont neighborhood, near the intersection of Winchester Boulevard and Walgrove Way.

A 2019 Hyundai SUV driver was heading northbound when it swerved out of the roadway and struck a pedestrian and a tree on the sidewalk.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, and the driver was identified as a male juvenile who was arrested and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The authorities have yet to release further details on the fatal crash.
