A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 99 near Modesto early Wednesday morning, September 2, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1:34 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 south of Carpenter Road.
CHP reported that the man was walking or running from the center median toward the east shoulder when he entered the path of a Kia traveling approximately 65 mph.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his identity. The driver of the Kia was not injured.
CHP said neither drugs nor alcohol was involved. Authorities continue to investigate the fatal incident.
