[09-02-2026] Kern County, CA – Electric Bicyclist Killed in Collision With Utility Truck in Taft.webpA man riding an electric bicycle was killed in a collision involving a utility bucket truck in Taft, Kern County, on Wednesday morning, September 2, 2026.

According to the Taft Police Department, officers responded around 10:47 a.m. to the intersection of Kern Street, also known as Highway 33, and 10th Street.

Police said a utility bucket truck was traveling eastbound on Kern Street and had stopped at a red traffic signal. At the same time, the electric bicyclist was traveling eastbound on the south sidewalk of Kern Street toward 10th Street.

Preliminary investigation indicates the truck driver began making a right turn onto 10th Street when the truck and electric bicycle collided.

The bicyclist was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released his identity.

Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors in the collision. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact the Taft Police Department.
