[09-02-2025] 84-Year-Old Man Killed in Apparent Hit-and-Run on I-5 South of Sperry Avenue in PattersonAn 84-year-old man was killed in an apparent hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5 south of Sperry Avenue in the Patterson area late Tuesday night, September 2, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 11:10 p.m. to a report of a disabled motorist attempting to wave down vehicles along northbound I-5. 

When officers arrived, they found an unoccupied Hyundai sedan parked on the right shoulder and the driver lying in the center median with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

CHP said the man, a resident of Lamont in Kern County, had apparently parked on the shoulder, exited his vehicle, and attempted to get the attention of passing motorists before entering the northbound traffic lanes. He was struck by an unknown vehicle whose driver fled the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
