[09-02-2024] One Person Killed After Head-On Collision on Highway 49One person was killed after a head-on crash in Calaveras County on Monday morning, September 2, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Highway 49 south of Big Bar Road.

Authorities stated that Josh Noel F., 49, of San Andreas, was driving his 1993 Chevy Silverado northbound when he crossed the double-yellow lines and directly into the path of a 2016 Ford C-Max driven by 73-year-old William R. 

The 73-year-old driver attempted to avoid the crash by turning into the northbound lane, but the vehicles collided. The Silverado veered off the roadway, hitting a barbed-wire fence before overturning down a steep embankment and striking a tree. He died at the scene.

Neither the Ford’s driver nor his passenger, 77-year-old Connie R., was injured. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
