[09-01-2024] Alameda County, CA – One Killed After Multi-Vehicle DUI Crash Involving Two Teslas and Box Truck on I-880

One person is dead following a multi-vehicle DUI crash involving two Teslas and a box truck early in Alameda County on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at 5:34 a.m. on northbound Interstate 880 near Embarcadero. 

Authorities stated that the initial collision involved a white Tesla Model Y, a white Tesla Model 3, and a red Toyota RAV4. After the initial collision, a Freightliner box truck crashed into the rear of the Tesla Model Y, causing fatal injuries to the driver.

The Tesla Model 3 driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Following an evaluation, officers determined that the Freightliner driver was not under the influence.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
