[08-31-2025] Motorcyclist Killed, Another Injured in Collision with Vehicle at Hegenberger Road and Hamilton Street in East OaklandA 51-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a Volkswagen Jetta in East Oakland on Sunday night, August 31, 2025.

According to the Oakland Police Department, the crash occurred around 10:49 p.m. at the intersection of Hegenberger Road and Hamilton Street.

Authorities reported that the motorcyclist, traveling southbound on Hegenberger Road, failed to stop at a red light and struck the passenger side of a westbound Volkswagen Jetta proceeding through a green light on Hamilton Street.

The motorcyclist was identified as Joseph W. II of Oakland by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office. Police said the passenger of the Volkswagen sustained injuries, while the driver remained at the scene and provided a statement.

It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
