As many as six people were injured after a multi-car crash near Chinatown, Los Angeles, on Saturday afternoon, August 31, 2024.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident began around 4:50 p.m. near Soto Street and Michigan Avenue.
Officers were called to the area after receiving reports of a man with a gun and found the alleged suspect, along with two others, inside a gray BMW.
The suspect’s vehicle later crashed into another car near the 1200 block of Spring Street, causing the other car to veer into a wall.
Firefighters were on the scene and used hydraulic tools to free two people trapped inside the car following the collision. LAFD paramedics transported five people to the hospital, all in fair-to-moderate condition. The injured include four males between the ages of 8 and 17 and a 40-year-old woman.
Officers were seen holding all three occupants of the BMW at gunpoint and taking them into custody. Despite earlier reports of a pursuit, LAPD clarified that they were in tracking mode when the crash occurred.
