[08-31-2023] Barstow SUV vs. Semi-Trailer Fiery Wrong-Way Collision Kills Two PeopleTwo people were killed after a collision involving an SUV and a semi-trailer caused by a wrong-way driver in Barstow on Thursday evening, August 31, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occured on the southbound Interstate 15 near L Street around 6:00 p.m.

Authorities stated that the semi-trailer was struck by a dark Mazda CX5 heading north in the southbound lanes. Trying to avoid colliding with the car, the trailer driver hit the railing. Within seconds of the collision, a fire broke out in the trailer’s cab and consumed it entirely.

Based on initial investigations, the driver and passenger of the trailer managed to escape uninjured. However, two SUV occupants died at the scene. The identity details of the parties involved were not disclosed to the public.

Officials said that they are yet to determine the events that led up to the deadly crash as their investigation continues.
