[08-30-2026] San Mateo County, CA – Passenger Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in San Bruno.webpA 22-year-old passenger was killed, and a driver suffered major injuries in a crash in San Bruno, San Mateo County, early Sunday morning, August 30, 2026.

According to the San Bruno Police Department, officers responded shortly before 1:00 a.m. to a crash near El Camino Real and the westbound Interstate 380 off-ramp.

Police said the vehicle struck a light pole. The 29-year-old San Francisco driver and his 22-year-old passenger, also from San Francisco, both sustained major injuries, but the passenger later died.

Investigators allege that the driver was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI. He was booked into jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing bodily injury or death, and possession of a controlled substance.

Authorities have not released the identities of the driver or the passenger who died.

Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash.
