[08-29-2023] Head-On Collision Between Two Pickup Trucks Injures 45-Year-Old Man on Hwy 108A 45-year-old man from Oakdale, identified as Tyson W., was injured after two pickup trucks collided head-on in Tuolumne County on Tuesday morning, August 29, 2023.

According to the reports from California Highway Patrol, the crash occured around 5:53 a.m. on Highway 108 east of Main Street.

Authorities stated that Tyson was traveling east in his 2019 Ford F250 pickup while keeping a speed of about 45 miles per hour. At the same time, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma driven by Max W., a 26-year-old Tuolumne County resident, was moving west.

Within the left turn lane of the two-way street, Max reduces his speed to about 20 miles per hour. As he attempted to veer into the Kwik Serv parking lot, he overlooked the approaching Ford pickup being driven by Tyson.

The Ford was struck head-on when the Toyota made a U-turn and entered the westbound lane. Upon impact, the Toyota stopped in the westbound lane of Highway 108 while the Ford was on the eastbound shoulder.

Tyson sustained minor injuries, but officials say their safety was enhanced by wearing seatbelts. Whether he was taken to a hospital for treatment was unknown.

There is still an ongoing investigation into the crash, and it is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs may have played a role.

What to Do After a Car Accident

Your words and actions at the accident site significantly impact the outcome of your case, whether you are a plaintiff or a family member of the deceased. If you want your injury claim to succeed, you should:

  • Stay calm. Remain at the scene and check yourself for injuries before helping others.
  • Get to a safe location and wait for the authorities. Pull over any vehicles that cannot move to the side of the road. To prevent further collisions, activate your hazard lights.
  • Call 911 to report your collision. Call the police unless the collision was minimal, no one was hurt, and no property was damaged. The police can investigate by speaking with prospective witnesses and gathering evidence.
  • Document everything. Exchange information with all parties involved. From your injuries to the weather, road conditions, and the vehicle that hit you.
  • Do not admit fault to the police. Give the police officer an honest account of events.
  • Seek medical attention. See a specialist or your primary care physician as soon as possible. Receiving immediate medical care can lessen the severity of injuries.
  • Report it to your insurance company. Insurance companies in California have different deadlines for reporting accidents.
  • Contact insurance adjusters. You can talk to a claims adjuster but only share the necessary information with them. You should consult a lawyer before accepting a settlement offer or providing a recorded statement to an insurance company.
  • Prepare a file. Gather all the paperwork related to the incident, such as the police report, medical bills, details about the other driver, and plans for treating any injuries, in a case file.
  • Seek immediate legal counsel from an experienced California car accident lawyer.
