[08-28-2025] Man Struck and Killed While Walking on Highway 79 in WinchesterA 41-year-old man was fatally struck while walking along Highway 79 in Winchester, Riverside County, early Thursday morning, August 28, 2025.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. just south of Stetson Avenue, when Corey B. of Hemet was hit by a 21-year-old driver in a Honda Accord. The driver, who was unable to swerve or stop in time, immediately stopped and called 911.

Sgt. Jonathan Torres reported that the exact location where Corey was walking, whether in lanes, trying to cross, or on the shoulder, remains unclear.

Paramedics from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived minutes later and pronounced Corey dead at the scene. The driver, who was not injured, was questioned but not arrested. Authorities do not believe alcohol, drugs, or speed were factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
