A 57-year-old man was seriously injured in a collision involving his electric moped and a car in La Jolla, San Diego, on Wednesday afternoon, August 27, 2025.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash occurred around 3:49 p.m. on the 6400 block of Soledad Mountain Road near the T-intersection with Caminito Blytheville.
The moped rider, traveling southbound, began a left turn and violated the right of way of a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by a 46-year-old man, resulting in the collision.
Authorities said the moped rider sustained life-threatening injuries, including a collapsed lung, a broken rib, and a laceration to his arm. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. The Altima driver was not injured. Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the collision.
