[08-26-2026] Santa Clara County, CA – Two Drivers Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Montague Expressway

Two men were killed in a fiery wrong-way collision on Montague Expressway in Santa Clara on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

According to the Santa Clara Police Department, the collision occurred on the Montague Expressway overcrossing at Lafayette Street and involved a GMC SUV and a Honda pickup truck.

Police said the GMC was traveling the wrong way on the northbound Montague Expressway and was exceeding the speed limit when it collided with the Honda. The exact speed of the GMC remains unknown.

One of the vehicles caught fire following the collision. Santa Clara Fire Department personnel extinguished the flames, while firefighters used extrication equipment on the other vehicle.

Authorities said both drivers died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
