[08-19-2024] 76-Year-Old Driver Killed, Passenger Injured After Solo Vehicle Rollover Crash on Highway 227A solo vehicle rollover crash killed a 76-year-old driver and injured the vehicle’s 79-year-old passenger in southern San Luis Obispo County on Monday morning, August 19, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was initially reported at around 11:52 a.m. on Highway 227 near Cold Canyon. 

The crash occurred when a 2006 Chevrolet pickup was traveling southbound on Highway 227, north of Cold Canyon Landfill. Authorities stated that the vehicle drifted off the roadway, hitting a tree and fencing before rolling down an embankment.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment, according to a CHP news release.

The victims’ identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing.
