A 17-year-old female pedestrian was killed, and another was injured after a hit-and-run DUI crash in Oakland on Monday evening, August 19, 2024.

According to the Oakland Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 7200 block of International Boulevard.

The victim, identified as Mardenia L., was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Another pedestrian who was in the crosswalk with Mardenia was hospitalized and is in stable condition.

The driver, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene and later crashed into another vehicle in the 8400 block of International Boulevard. Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect shortly after the second collision.

Police have not released details regarding the number of vehicles involved in the second collision or whether there were additional injuries.
