A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on South Chester Avenue in Bakersfield late Sunday night, August 18, 2024.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of South Chester Avenue and Sandra Drive.
Officers responded to the scene and found the man suffering from major injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was standing in the lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
The vehicle driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police stated that speed and impairment do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
