A 53-year-old woman was killed, and five others were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Long Beach early Friday morning, August 16, 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m. at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Atlantic Avenue.
Maria M., a resident of Long Beach, was a passenger in one of the vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene after being trapped in the wreckage. Both drivers and three other passengers were injured and transported to local hospitals for treatment.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Mazda 6, driven by a 24-year-old woman from Los Angeles, was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway. The Mazda collided with a 2007 Toyota Scion, driven by a 63-year-old man from Long Beach who was traveling northbound on Atlantic Avenue.
No further details were released, and authorities are gathering all the necessary information to determine the factors leading to the incident.
