A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle near Barstow early Tuesday morning, August 13, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the victim’s body was discovered around 5:00 a.m. lying in the northbound lane of Highway 247, north of Bonanza Road, just outside the Barstow city limits.
CHP officers reported that the pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle during the hours of darkness. The driver did not stop to render help and fled before emergency personnel arrived.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, citing extreme trauma as the cause. The identity of the victim remained unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities have yet to release an official description of the suspect and the vehicle involved.
