[08-12-2026] Imperial County, CA – Two Drivers Injured in Collision Involving Big Rig and Box Truck in Winterhaven

Two drivers were injured in a collision involving a big rig and a box truck on Interstate 8 in Winterhaven, Imperial County, early Wednesday morning, August 12, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, emergency personnel responded shortly after 5 a.m. near the Agriculture Inspection Station. Authorities said a semi-truck was traveling eastbound when it failed to negotiate a curve for an undetermined reason.

CHP said the semi-truck entered the center median, continued into the westbound lanes, and collided with a westbound box truck. The big rig subsequently overturned.

The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries. The box truck driver suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
