[08-12-2025] Elderly Bicyclist Killed in Collision on Mohawk Street in BakersfieldAn 86-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Bakersfield on Tuesday morning, August 12, 2025.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the crash occurred around 6:19 a.m. in the 900 block of Mohawk Street.

Officers said the bicyclist, identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office as Cecil W. of Bakersfield, was traveling westbound in the 800 block of Tower Way and failed to stop at a posted stop sign at Mohawk Street. He continued into the 900 block, where he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Cecil suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained on site and cooperated with the investigation.

Police said speed and impairment were not factors for the driver. The investigation is ongoing.
