[08-10-2026] Sonoma County, CA – Horse Dies, Rider Seriously Injured in Crash With BMW in Cotati

A horse died, and its rider suffered major injuries in a collision with a BMW sedan in Cotati, Sonoma County, on Sunday afternoon, August 9, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Stony Point Road, south of Rohnert Park Expressway.

CHP said the rider sustained major injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment. The horse died at the scene.

The BMW driver reported minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital. Additional information about the circumstances leading to the collision was not immediately available.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
