An elderly cyclist was hospitalized after a non-contact incident with a pickup truck in Winchester, Riverside County, on Friday morning, August 9, 2024.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:19 a.m. near the intersection of Simpson and Leon roads.
The cyclist, described as a man in his mid-70s, was riding with two others when a white pickup truck traveling alongside them near a construction zone left no space, forcing him to crash. Following the incident, the pickup truck driver allegedly fled the scene.
The injured cyclist was transported to Inland Valley Hospital with a possible collarbone injury. He was wearing a helmet and did not appear to suffer serious head injuries. It is not immediately known if the other two cyclists riding with the victim suffered injuries as well.
No official description of the suspect has been released yet. CHP is still investigating the incident and its contributing factors.
