A multi-vehicle rollover crash caused significant traffic delays on southbound Interstate 5 in Encinitas on Wednesday morning, July 30, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported shortly after 11:00 a.m. near the Birmingham Drive/Exit 40 off-ramp. A gray SUV overturned and landed on its roof in the HOV lane.
The crash impacted three lanes of southbound I-5, backing up traffic to Poinsettia Lane/Exit 45, according to SigAlert. Caltrans District 11 reported that the affected lanes, located just north of Birmingham Drive, have since reopened.
The exact number of people involved and the extent of any injuries remain unconfirmed.
