[07-28-2024] Three People Killed, Two Others Injured Following Suspected Three-Vehicle DUI Crash Near ShandonThree people were killed, while two others were injured following a suspected three-vehicle DUI crash near Shandon, San Luis Obispo County, on Sunday night, July 28, 2024.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. along Highway 46 west of West Center Street.

Officers said that a 2021 Mercedes driven by a 30-year-old woman from Paso Robles was traveling westbound on the highway using the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on against a 2022 Honda. Following that, another eastbound vehicle, just behind the Honda, also crashed into the car.

The Honda driver, later identified as a 24-year-old woman from Cutler, and two passengers, a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, were all killed as a result of the collision. A third passenger reportedly survived with major injuries. 

The driver of the unspecified third vehicle involved sustained minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital for treatment.

The Mercedes driver’s status following the incident is still unclear. CHP is investigating why she was traveling the wrong way in the first place. It is believed that DUI is a factor.

No additional details were provided. Currently, no arrests have been made yet.
