Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a Tesla and a Harley Davidson motorcycle on State Route 9 in Santa Cruz County on Saturday evening, July 26, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:47 p.m. when an 18-year-old woman from San Jose was driving a white 2018 Tesla Model 3 northbound, and a 61-year-old man and 59-year-old woman were riding a blue 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicles collided head-on, ejecting both motorcycle riders.
Despite life-saving efforts, both riders were declared dead at the scene. The Tesla driver was not injured in the crash.
Both motorcycle riders were wearing helmets, and the Tesla driver was wearing a seatbelt. The victims’ identities will be released by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
